Pianist Nikolay Dimitrov brought the audience from the Netherlands and Germany to their feet, filling the hall of the Atlas Theater in the Dutch city of Emmen. The 21-year-old graduate of the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen has been selected to perform as a soloist in the official performance of the Hanze Symphony Orchestra, a joint orchestral project of the Prince Claus Conservatory and the University of the Arts Bremen, conducted by Stefan Veselka.
Nikolay Dimitrov brilliantly performed the Second Piano Concerto by Sergei Rachmaninov in honor of the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth. Under the stormy applause of the audience, he also played an encore, which was greeted even more enthusiastically by the hall – “Barcarola” by Offenbach in his original arrangement. After the concert, Nikolay Dimitrov received many congratulations from the official guests and the audience.
