Program
- J. J. Sibelius Pohjola’s Daughter, Op.49
- E. E. Grieg Concerto for piano and orchestra in a kl.t., op.16
- S. Prokofiev Symphony No. 5, Op. 100
Grieg’s Piano Concerto is a high-romantic piece, passionate and rich in themes that will stay with you immediately. Although it does not sound obvious ́Norwegian ́, they are often Scandinavian conductors like Gullberg Jensen who know how to get to the core and make the piece sound completely authentic.
Prokofjev’s Fifth Symphony is ideal for those who really want to be blown away by an orchestra. It is one of the absolute masterpieces of the symphonic repertoire. Above all, you can hear how versatile this composer was. Prokofjev easily switched between epic drama, graceful waltzes, ́machine music ́ and cartoonish humor. This symphony has it all, with an almost big-band-like final part on the buy. And don’t forget the catchy fun that such a piece gives to the musicians.
Beforehand, Pohjola’s Daughter by Jean Sibelius, a musical fairy tale about foggy Finnish landscapes and sorcery, sounds.
